Why, When and Where was happened?

Aaliyah tragically died in a plane crash on August 25, 2001. The accident occurred shortly after takeoff from Marsh Harbour Airport in the Bahamas, where Aaliyah and her crew had been filming the music video for her song "Rock the Boat."

Key Details of the Crash:

  • Aircraft: A Cessna 402B twin-engine plane was chartered to take Aaliyah and her team back to the United States.
  • Overloaded Plane: The plane was overloaded beyond its maximum weight limit by several hundred pounds, primarily due to excess luggage and equipment. Additionally, it was reported that the number of passengers (nine people in total) also exceeded the plane’s safe capacity.
  • Pilot: The pilot, Luis Morales III, was later found to have been unlicensed to fly the aircraft and had traces of cocaine and alcohol in his system, according to a toxicology report released after the crash.

Shortly after takeoff, the plane struggled to gain altitude, stalled, and crashed about 200 feet from the runway. All nine people on board, including Aaliyah, died in the crash.

Cause of Death:

Aaliyah suffered severe burns and head trauma, but an autopsy report indicated that she died from blunt-force trauma to the head, chest, and heart, as well as extensive burns.

The combination of the aircraft being overloaded and the pilot's inexperience were the primary factors contributing to the crash, which ended the life of Aaliyah at just 22 years old, at the height of her career.
